The Greeks were becoming restless then Menelaus suggested that it would be a fine thing to send a young man as a spy that was as restless as themselves. Diomedes volunteered to be a partner but wanted a partner and picked Odysseus to be his partner. Odysseus was very resourceful therefore to be a good warrior. the spies wore leather armor so they wouldn't be seen as easily if they had worn metal armor. The Trojans had the same idea as the Greeks the spy for the Greeks was Dolon who was very swift when it came to running Dolon was promised the horses of Achilles if he came back with intel. Diomedes and Odysseus saw him and knew what his purposes were. When Diomedes and Odysseus approached Dolon he tried to make a run for it but Diomedes and Odysseus caught up with Dolon and threatened him. Dolon begged them to take him alive and his father will pay them good ransom. Dolon told them everything he knew about the Trojan's plans and where everybody was and what they were doing. Also that the horses of Hector weren't the finest horses on the Trojan's side the finest horses belonged to King Rhesus not Hector's . When Dolon pleaded for his life once more Diomedes refused and killed him brutally. When they arrived at King Rhesus's place Odysseus let the horses loose while Diomedes killed King Rhesus and him men and went on their way home.
